2 cities x 1 hole
A growing view at Barcelona and Berlin through the Camera Obscura
The photo exhibition of Matthias Hagemann offers a very personal view of these two cities. The show presents b&w prints, appearing like pictures of frozen time, caused by the camera obscura with its extreme exposure time, a technique known from the early 19th century and used by the photographic pioneer Niepce.
The show features on one side photographs of well known Berlin spots like the Sony Centre, Checkpoint Charlie and the Chancellor’s Office. On the other side, on the opening day only one single print will be present from Barcelona. A series of empty frames wait to be filled during the exhibition period. Matthias Hagemann will add every second day two recently made pinhole pictures until the show closes on the 28th of september.
The photographer only needs a tin box, a tiny hole, some years of experience and amounts of patience to create this outstanding and growing view on Barcelona and Berlin.
His intention is the opposite of digital photography: fast taken, fast stored, but fast forgotten.
