Shown here in a photo taken on Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day 2008, Maximillian, age 2 years and 4 months is taking part in his first Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day - the youngest participant of the event (???).

Curator Alison Nordstrom (George Eastman House) will give a presntation titled Terrible Beauty: The Art and Politics of Photographs which will be followed by an open discussion with artists Craig J. Barber and Louie Palu. Barber has been photographing in Vietnam and Palu has been recently embedded with and photographing Canadian troops in Afghanistan.

During the mid and late 1990's Barber returned to Vietnam to revisit a land he had first witnessed during the American Vietnam War. Returning to Vietnam was partly a cathartic exercise for himself and partly to see whether time had healed a country and psyche once ravaged by war. This exhibition will present 46 of his platinum/palladium pinhole photographs from his Vietnam series.

I've been talking about doing this for sometime and now it is in the works. I am writing to give you advance notice of a pinhole photography workshop I've planned for this autumn, in Italy's beautiful Umbria region. My workshop this fall offers a chance to explore pinhole photography, in the same environment where Leonardo da Vinci once experimented with similar image projection techniques. (You may not be surprised to hear that the food and drink in Umbria are also pretty good.)
